The Week Ahead (21-27 November 2016)

In our pursuit to making rights real, we bring to you our plans and activities for the week. This is done, in so that the public, media and our partners are always aware of our cases and advocacy activities. We hope that this is not only informative but encourages everyone to contribute towards our goal, which is making rights real.

21 November 2016

The Refugee and Migrant Rights Programme (RMRP) in Musina together with the Peace Building Team members will be raising awareness on gender based violence as a way of kick starting our 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women & Children campaign. Some of the RMRP team members are in Johannesburg participating in the 3rd National Consultation on Migration Health in South Africa towards the Development of a National strategic framework on Health in the context of population mobility, this is organized by the International Organisation on Migration (IOM),

The main aim of this consultation is to build on the current ongoing global, regional and National discourse on migration and specific health issues; HIV, TB, Communicable Disease, Mental Health etc. This forum will provide a platform to discuss key issues of; governance, policy, strategic direction, coordination, inclusiveness with regard to Migration Health agenda and will particularly look at how the current health policies and strategies address migration dynamics.


22 November 2016

Gender and Equality Programme (GEP) will be in Nelspruit with the Heinrich Boll Foundation. The team will be providing training to a number of women and children shelters on the law that governs state funding to NPO’S also exploring on improving state funding to, and relationship with shelters providing care and social services. The Land and housing Programme (LHP) will be issuing urgent two applications against Tshwane Municipality, to declare the by- laws which authorized the impoundment of animals, unconstitutional.

There will be an application for emergency shelters after Tshwane, with the assistance of Security burnt down shelters and all the belongings of 25 people to ashes. LHP will also assist the clients to open a criminal case against the people who were involved as well as issue an urgent interdict and spoliation against the Emalahleni Municipality who are slowly encroaching on property our clients for decades as Esta- occupiers.
